Koala in his prime who was strutting around between gum trees before he climbed up to a vantage point to mark out his territory by grunting like a pig. The call was deep and travelled a good distance.
The Koala on Kangaroo Island have been introduced to safeguard the mainland's population as there is a constant threat from bushfires and disease. The Koala are healthy and breeding extremely well on the island which contains National Park, Conservation Park, and wilderness Protected Areas, with undisturbed bushland. However a number of the mainland Koala carry Chlamydia which can cause blindness and infertility in some cases.
