Tribute to Newky
I have been very privileged to see Wild dog on a number of occasions in Botswana and also in the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania.
Each dog has its own unique markings hence why they are sometimes referred to as 'Painted dog'.
The pack has an alpha male and female who are the only pair to be able to breed and the other pack members all contribute to the rearing of the pups.
Their social structure is complex but their strong bonds show when the pack hunt, bringing back food for the pups and their sitter and for any dog injured within the pack.
The large ears are exceptionally large and show temperament by their position and communicate where they are in the pecking order.
