Tribute to Newky
'Tribute to Newky' is being donated to this year's Sketch for Survival 2019 Exhibition. More details can be found on Conservation page
One of my most memorable wildlife encounters was with a pack of Painted Wolves (Wild dog) in the Selinda concession in northern Botswana. Finding the den proved to be a lucky break and timing it to the dogs returning from a successful kill as the alpha female had nine pups. Many paintings and sketches have been inspired from that time.
I have never forgotten a wildlife documentary about these critically endangered canines which followed the remarkable story of a young pup's journey to adulthood, where against all the odds he became leader of his own pack. His name was 'Newky'.
