Rescued cheetah at The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) in Namibia.
'Shadow' got her name because she was very timid and would hide in the bush and undergrowth. Shadow was caught in a humane trap by a sympathetic farmer who contacted CCF to remove the cheetah from his land.
CCF provides advice and give a Shepherding guard dog to help protect the farmers' livestock. CCF will continue to give support and veterinary care to their dogs. The Anatolian Shepherd dogs are an ideal breed, as their bark a loan will be enough to frighten off the cheetah. The pups are placed with kid goats of sheep at about 6 weeks and grow to accept the herd as their family and give them protection from any threat. It is a win for the farmer and the cheetah and works extremely well to help save this highly endangered cat.
Where possible CCF try to relocate the cheetah to their natural habitat away from human contact if they are mature enough, in good health and experienced hunters.
