Oscar’s Pride

Gifted to Murrayside Care Home, Edinburgh in memory of my mother Heather King who found devoted care, comfort and support over her final six months
This pastel painting is dedicated to a precious cub, named Oscar, by the guides. There are two images of him on the right. He was a firm favourite with every member of his family because of his antics and personality.
Sadly there was a fierce bush fire that swept through the pride's savannah territory, separating the lioness from their cubs, after they had gone off on a night hunt. The mothers attempted to walk through hot embers, in an effort to desperately try to relocate their young, they were not successful. Tragically their feet pads got quite badly burnt and all the cubs perished, despite their valiant efforts.
