The elephants in the Selous Game Reserve were much more wary of vehicles indicating that elephant/human trust had been broken and a good likelihood that poaching was taking place.
I was watching through my binoculars a breeding herd of females and their calves when this enormous bull elephant seemed to appear from nowhere.
He was the largest and most impressive elephant I had ever seen, with his whole stature and demeanour demanding respect. He confidently moved towards the herd and walked amongst them, clearly showing the comparison in his enormous size.
It appeared as though this bull had cast a spell over the entire herd as he moved forward to command the role of leader because the entire herd obediently fell back inline to be guided into a mopane forest.
