Without question my favourite subject that inspires me most to paint are elephants. What is an added bonus is when there is a very young calf because of the devoted attention the baby receives from its mother and the rest of the family. Their wide range of emotions are more readily seen when there is a young calf e.g. joy, tenderness, protectiveness, patience and instructive care.
Elephants have excellent memories and will teach their young where to find water in times of drought, where the best fruit trees can be found, how to dig for salty nutrients and minerals and roots, strip bark, how to communicate over long distances and how to live in a complex social structure where livelong friendships are formed.
