Etosha Guardian

Elephant command the waterholes in this dry area close to the Salt Pans and these giants always drink first. I watched this courting pair of lion tentatively quenching their thirst on the fringes of the water source as the elephant repeatedly chased these big cats away because of their potential threat.
The dominance of the elephant is more apparent as the conditions get hotter and there is less water to go around.
Etosha NP in Namibia is a challenging environment for all the wildlife and the waterholes are vital to sustain life in these hostile, dry areas.
