Carmine colony

The exquisite Carmine Bee-eater were breeding and our guide took us to where a large colony were nesting in a large sandy bank on the Luangwa river. They are migrant travellers but come to the Zambian area every year and dig out holes with their sharp beaks to make safe burrows for the eggs and chicks.
